There are several common mistakes in affiliate marketing. The absence of your newsletter as a lead collector is a source of one. Newsletters are an excellent way to organically drive traffic to your affiliate website, advertise affiliate products, and increase sales.
Email addresses are usually traded by site visitors for the offer of weekly or monthly newsletters being sent to all the members of this mailing list. The question to ask is why would someone want to subscribe for a newsletter?
Several thousands of email newsletters abound online, but unfortunately, many of them are not earning any reasonable money.
At the other end of the spectrum, you will find that most successful affiliate marketers thrive because of their newsletters and the secret is to provide your audience quality.
This means that creating an effective newsletter can provide a boost to your affiliate marketing business, and not providing one can be a costly mistake.
Your Newsletter Ensures a Dedicated Audience
The main advantage of your newsletter is that it will ensure that you have a dedicated audience. However, this all starts with an attractive website and the added understanding of the do’s and don’ts of affiliate marketing.
Two resources employed by Metamorphosis Hub to get started were a practice website and a free trial program that laid out a GPS road map to affiliate marketing business. Check both below:
An effective newsletter will help you grow your niche and create engagement. To do this, you must have an audience, and the only way to have an audience is by building an email list.
Your email list helps create a dedicated audience for you to continue to provide quality information in parallel with good or poor rankings by Search Engines.
If you are providing your audience with value and building trust, devoted members of your newsletter will continually return to your site as they begin to see you as an authority in your niche.
Unfortunately, many affiliate marketers do not start building their email list early on. The thinking is that they would prefer to have tons of articles on the site before they begin. I have been guilty of that train of thought and I can emphasize that this is a huge and common mistake! Check out this article Affiliate Marketing for Seniors. The Best Qualities To Have

Your Newsletter Goes Hand-in-Hand with your Email List

An email list is important because by providing you with their e-mail addresses proves that your readers are already interested in your content.
This guarantees to a large extent, that they will read your newsletter upon arrival in their Inbox because they are interested in what you have to say.
It is therefore not an assumption that they will also take your advice seriously.
To generate your email list requires an email service provider.
An email service provider is a company that provides you with email marketing service which include handling of your email forms, email campaigns and your subscriber list.
You need an email service provider to be efficient and successful in lead collection.
There are several free email marketing service providers. Many of them can be used to initiate an email list for free, and up to a certain limit of subscribers before you are required to start paying for the service.
Email marketing tools allow you to manage your subscriptions. Key features include the ability to:
- Create different email sign up forms
- Create popup forms
- Send out unlimited emails via email campaigns
- Create several landing pages
- Create automation series and send out emails automatically at set intervals
- Review statistics of individual subscribers to understand their practices in campaigns
Additional Benefits of Your Email List
- You get to know your audience more intimately
- Email subscribers are more likely to be individuals that will heed “call to action” and recommendations to check out different products.
- You own your email list and have full control over it.
- Emails are an easy tool for communication and feedback.
- Emails can be an instant source of feedback.
Common Mistakes in Affiliate Marketing – Newsletter Content
1.Not Creating An Attractive Website
This can sometimes be a drag. If you are just starting out in affiliate marketing, create a simple website that you can practice on. Check the link below
2. Not Having a Newsletter Specific To Your Niche
If you want your newsletter to have good results and you are looking to get a decent profit from it, then your newsletter articles should be specific to your niche.
If your niche is gardening, avoid publishing articles on health or sci-fi. Simply, give users the information they are looking.
2. Not Writing Quality Articles

DO NOT copy and paste the work of others on your site, because If you do, then it means that you are promoting people instead of your own work. Similarly,
DO NOT refer readers to another site. You want readers to see you as an authority, hence you will need to create quality and engaging original content.
Research your topic well before creating content and create a comprehensive, engaging article from the information.
It does not matter if it is too long because you can break it down into separate articles.
3. Writing Lengthy Articles
The ideal length for most newsletter articles is between 150-750 words. More lengthy articles can be converted into two or more articles.
It has been found that shorter articles are easier to read. This makes them more effective. It is also worthwhile to have lots of images as these make the article more engaging.
Common Mistakes in Affiliate Marketing – Frequency of Publications and Offers
1. Publish Weekly
Monthly newsletters are not effective. It is recommended that you only publish once a week or once every two weeks. Although people want to read your articles, you do not want to put them off by publishing too frequently
2. Focus on one Affiliate product or Offer each month
Select one affiliate product that you want to promote each month and craft your information around topics related to that product. This will make your readers focus on one product at a time and may make them buy the product.
3. Offer Incentives
People always love incentives. Develop downloadable incentives for your readers on specific days of the month. By returning on that date to download material will ensure more traffic to the site and the possibility of additional sales.
Conclusion
Common mistakes in affiliate marketing include not collecting email leads by offering a newsletter subscription. Traditional affiliate marketing focuses on converting traffic from articles on your website to an affiliate merchant site for sales.
A simpler way is to generate leads through subscription to a newsletter with a higher conversion rate. Understanding this will help affiliate marketers to improve their business.

Hi Ceci! Thank you very much for your article! I have to say that I am doing it wrong reading your article. I have no email list yet, and I have not written any newsletter. But I should really do so. Because I write posts for 3 websites, I feel it could be too much, providing newsletters, but once a week should be fine. Do you have a special email plugin for me to use? I learned quite a lot through your blog post. Thank you very much again!
Hi Sylvia,
Don’t beat yourself up about it. Not having an email list happens to many people!
There is no special email plugin – although I sometimes wish there was where you plug in an it’s done for you!
To set up an email list you will require an autoresponder like MailChimp, Aweber or other kind depending on your preference. You have to set up whichever one you choose. You will generally get more opt-ins to sign-up for your newsletter if you are also offering them a freebie (you create) as a lead magnet.
Spend some time doing this. It is worth it!

Hi Ceci!
This is a great article! I started my newsletter early on and like you said, I think that that’s the way to go. Start building your audience early and keep them intrigued with your news letters. I have one that sends out every Saturday with new posts from the week and one halfway through the month that I call my FOMO update haha!
One thing I haven’t worked the kinks out on though is a popup. I use Mailpoet and I can’t seem to find one that works well to fit on phones. It works perfectly fine if I’m on my website on a laptop or desktop but for some reason I just can’t get the sizing right for my mobile site!
Do you have any tips for this?
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the comment Haley.
I use Mailchimp as my autoresponder and the pop-up feature is provided on the platform. I must confess i haven’t used it yet, but that is probably the way I will go eventually. You may also like to check out the plugin Popup Builder which is a standalone and might work better for you.
Let me know how you fare.
